What is FLAC ?
Free Lossless Audio Codec, or FLAC is an open audio format which can be used and implemented by anyone. It is not registered or protected as a trademark and is royalty-free. This audio format is very similar to the popular MP3 audio format. The only difference being that it is lossless. It means you can compress an audio in FLAC without experiencing any loss in the audio quality.
Windows Media Player could not play FLAC audio files in the earlier versions of Windows. Native support for FLAC in Windows 10 media player is really a great feature. Windows 10 is due in early 2015 and promises to deliver a host of new features. There have been discussions on Windows 10 having the native support for MKV file format as well.
