Gaming Mouse Review: ASUS ROG Gladius

The Republic of Gamers or ROG series from ASUS has been known for delivering excellent gaming products. Keeping pace with the tradition, ASUS ROG Gladius has been introduced as the world’s first gaming mouse that supports 2000Hz USB polling rate support.

ROG Gladius is a six button gaming mouse that is specifically designed for right-handed FPS gamers. This ergonomically designed mouse has patterned rubber on the sides which provides excellent grip and the buttons are well laid out. While you may find the looks of the ROG Gladius similar to that of the Razer DeathAdder, the big left and right mouse buttons are curved for better grip and the Gladius is more streamlined. The illuminated ROG Eye logo on the back and the red glow logo on the scroll wheel add to the visual appeal of the ASUS ROG Gladius

ASUS ROG Gladius has a plastic body with a steel grey finish. ASUS claim that the texture helps the mouse to stay cool and minimize the chances of stickiness caused by sweat. However, if you live in a humid place, or have sweaty hands, you will feel some damage caused by the moisture which can lead to the clicks not being registered at times. Gladius is easy to hold and offers a comfortable fit regardless of your grip type. At 116g, the mouse is quite heavy which is a good thing. The overall build quality is quite good which is expected from a ROG product.

ASUS ROG Gladius comes with a removable cable. Two cables are bundled with the mouse – one braided and the other regular. You also get a nifty carry case as well. The left and right mouse buttons come with Japanese-made Omron switches which can last up to 2 million clicks. The best feature of the Gladius is that these Omron switches are removable and you can replace them. You can buy the Omron D2F and D2FC series switches online which come with 1 to 3 million lifespan ratings.

The Gladius uses the 6400 DPI Avaga ADNS-3988 sensor which is same as the DeathAder 4G and is one of the best sensors available. ASUS ROG Gladius has a 2000Hz USB polling rate and is capable of 50G acceleration along with a speed of 200 IPS (Instruction per second). It also has built-in flash memory to save you profiles.

ASUS ROG Gladius is pretty easy to install. You just have to plug it, install the ROG Armory software suite and you are good to go. The software is very easy to use and it quite powerful. You can customize a lot of settings as per your convenience like the sensitivity and angle snapping. One of the good things about the ROG Gladius is that it has a lift off distance of 1.5mm which can be calibrated. This is beneficial for gamers who tend to lift the mouse a bit.

The ASUS ROG Gladius delivers fantastic performance. The sensor is extremely responsive and the higher polling rate helps a lot. The mouse fits very comfortably in your hands and is great for claw, palm or fingertip users. The level of customization offered by the software is amazing and together with superb ergonomics and a great sensor, this is one the best gaming mouse under INR 5000 that is available today.

The ASUS ROG Gladius is available at a price tag of INR 4,500 on Amazon. You may get it at even lower street prices.
