How To Integrate Mailchimp With Genesis eNews Extended Plugin

Genesis by Studiopress is one of the most powerful and popular frameworks for WordPress today. The concept of a solid framework and a child theme that you can customize as per your needs is amazing. Genesis eNews Extended plugin was primarily used to set up feedburner address so that readers could subscribe to blog posts via email.

Many bloggers are more interested in delivering their own newsletters to the subscribers now a days. Mailchimp is one of the most popular newsletter tools available right now. You can easily use the Genesis eNews Extended plugin on your WordPress site to integrate the Mailchimp subscription form. Since the Genesis eNews Extended plugin is customized as per the Genesis theme, it looks great on your website as compared to any other subscription form or widget.

Before getting started with the guide, you need to be ready with a couple of things.

  • Install the Genesis eNews Extended Plugin on WordPress

You can download the plugin here or you can install it from WordPress admin panel. Go to Plugins > Add New > Search.

  • Create an account with MailChimp (If you don’t already have one)

Once you have created the account, login and create a list. Once the list has been created, you need to select it and go to Signup Forms > Embedded forms > Naked.

Here you can modify the Mailchimp subscription form as per your liking. I choose to keep the form simple with just the Email address in the below example. You can add the First Name and Last Name as well, if you want to. Once you have specified the details copy the code to a notepad which can be found below the preview.

The next step is to go to your WordPress Admin Panel > Appearance > Widgets. Add the Genesis eNews Extended widget to a suitable position as per your preference. I have added the widget to the sidebar in this example.

Here comes the important thing.

In the “Form Action” box, you need to paste the highlighted part of the code that you had generated earlier.

This piece of code registers your newsletter and tells the eNews widget that this is what people are signing for.

Once you have pasted the highlighted code, next step is to fill the “E-Mail Field” and well as the “First Name Field” and the “Last Name Field” (If you have opted for the first name & last name). The name label that needs to be copied is highlighted below:

If you are using First Name, Last Name and Email categories, you need to fill in all the entries as highlighted above.

Fill in only the highlighted entries in the corresponding boxes. In my case I have used only the Email option, hence I used only the EMAIL label. Here is what it will look like after you have entered all the required information.

And that’s about it. Now, you can customize the text that comes before or after your signup form according to the way you want it to look like.
